What are disbursements?
Disbursements are third party costs that a lawyer covers for a client in a real estate deal. The lawyer is not making a profit on the disbursements; rather, the lawyer is simply passing on the costs of these services to the client.
The types of disbursements may vary depending on the law firm that you’re dealing with, but typically fall into two categories – administration fees and third party fees.
Administration fees are the overhead costs incurred to deliver the legal service, including things like paper, printing and postage. At SmartClose, we don’t charge these costs back to our clients. The following administration costs are already included in our fee:
